Jul 3, 2018 at 10:21 | comment | added | Denis Nardin♦ | Here it is Unfortunately I still think the answer there is a bit unsatisfying...
Jul 3, 2018 at 10:19 | comment | added | Denis Nardin♦ | @Charo It is indeed a duplicate, but I don't think the answers there are really good enough. I vaguely remember seeing a similar question on linguistic.SE with a better answer, I'll see if I can dig it out. In the meantime I suggest we leave this question open.

Dec 20, 2013 at 12:35 | comment | added | martina.physics | The question is very good and I'm not able to find an answer. Anyway, note here garzantilinguistica.it/ricerca/?q=diciassette, it says that dĕcem (et) sĕptem, was in Latin the common form for septemdĕcim
Dec 20, 2013 at 12:24 | comment | added | symbiotech | @randomatlabuser apparently Latin had also "octodecim" and "novemdecim", but they didn't survive
Dec 20, 2013 at 12:00 | comment | added | user193 | Apparently Romanian number words from 11 to 19 are perfectly consistent! And yes, I think that would deserve a separate explanation because it would only be reasonable to expect from Romanian number words the same inconsistencies of Latin, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
